Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking a Mainframe Automation Engineer that has extensive experience in mainframe system automation technologies.  This individual should be self-motivated and driven to help contribute toward the success of our mainframe technology initiatives.  This person will work in a team environment supporting multiple systems in a highly redundant and robust mainframe environment.

Responsibilities Include

-Create and Maintain OPS/MVS REXX rules, SSM tables, and programs

-Resolve Automation issues

-Collaborate with other infrastructure, application, and operations areas on their automation needs.

-Provide support during z/OS Upgrades

-Participate in DR recovery and testing

-Work with vendors for system support and problem resolution

-Provide 24X7 on-call support as part of a team rotation

-Ability to learn new automation technologies such as Python, Groovy/Java, and Jenkins Pipelines.

Basic Qualifications


- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
- At least 5 years of experience within a total information technology (IT) environment
- At least 10 years of experience with the design, development and support of technology infrastructure

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Extensive experience in Mainframe technologies.

  • Proven Experience in Technical troubleshooting of OPS/MVS issues, Complex z/OS Sysplex environments, Automating mainframe tasks across environment.

  • Subject matter expert in REXX Programming, OPS/MVS, IPL and shutdown processing, Subsystems such as CICS, IMS, JES2, MQ, and DB2, HMC operations, JCL

  • Knowledge of BMC products
