Overview

The Facilities Engineering Technician contributes to delivery of Brownfield(established) Facilities engineering project objectives by providing technical support and data management to project development, process safety information (PSI) documentation updates, technical report generation and work planning / execution.

The Rockies Business Unit (RBU) Brownfield Facilities Engineering (BF FE) Projects Organization is a team of 12 engineers responsible for supporting existing operations and working cross-functionally with other teams to optimize the safety, reliability, profitability and carbon intensity of RBU production operations.

  The team accomplishes these goals on two fronts – providing dedicated support to production operations to maintain runtime and performance and designing and implementing retrofit projects to incrementally improve performance.  The work across these two disciplines generates over 300 scopes of work, with associated standard documentation and engineering workflows for business case justification, process safety assurance and efficient execution of work.

The Brownfield Engineering Technician role supports development and management of these engineering work products.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Develop scope of work packages for routine or standard applications in support of BF FE Projects efforts.

  • Support work queue and prioritization tool and reports including troubleshooting support, report creation, answer inquiries, improve tools, and develop process procedures.

  • Compile and analyze data from multiple systems to help generate root cause analysis reports and review with the air permitting team for approval.

  • Support Brownfield FE Projects team via software tools for project management workflow (Execute), budgetary approval for expenditure job creation(AFENav), process safety review process job creation (iMOC – internal tool) and pre-start-up safety review checklist creation and management (ePSSR).

  • Support Brownfield Project Engineers by tracking and expediting various regulatory / permitting approvals.

  • Support project close-out by coordinating process safety information (PSI) documentation updates and verifying necessary updates are captured in system(s) of record. (Documentum/D2/iPrism)

  • Support continued delivery of regulatory requirements, including emissions plan updates, sensor activation/deactivation, and semi-annual reporting data.

  • Help identify gaps between current performance and best-in-class and recommend opportunities for improvement.

  • Works in collaboration with specialists and engineers of other disciplines.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3 years of relevant experience

  • Skilled practitioner of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5 years of relevant experience

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SharePoint

  • Ability to create and publish dashboards and reports in Microsoft PowerBI and Power Apps

  • Ability to read, interpret, and QAQC process safety information (PSI) such as a Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID), Process Flow Diagram (PFD), Cause & Effect Diagram (C&E)

  • Ability to manage data from multiple field sources, analyze trends, develop, and manage performance metrics, and troubleshoot performance problems.

  • Helps to develop timely and fit-for-purpose solutions to problems where few or no precedents exist.

  • Provides appropriate influence in building team consensus and can share reports and analyses clearly to align the team on the proposed path forward.

  • Strong team player with good interpersonal skills, active networker and communicator, and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $87,100 - $171,700. ​
