The Director of Advanced Manufacturing will report to the Vice President of Operations and be a core leader of the Manufacturing organization. This role will be creating and developing systems aimed at manufacturing more efficiently to meet customer demands and identify areas of next-generation technology to continue pioneering the future of Smith & Wesson manufacturing.
This role will cross-collaborate across multiple functional areas including supply chain, engineering, production, and other groups to implement and design technologies that impact multiple areas of business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the relentless leader of our Continuous Improvement Effort and our transformation into Advanced Manufacturing.
- Partner with the business to build and execute Enterprise manufacturing strategic roadmaps that are aligned with business strategies and highlight opportunities for transforming the business by embracing advanced technology capabilities.
- Build a world-class team; recruit, develop, engage and retain talent.
- Oversee the strategic planning, deployment and execution of advanced manufacturing technologies ensuring seamless integration of digital solutions with existing processes.
- Manage and oversee development, implementation, sustainment and improvement of advanced systems used in the manufacture of firearms.
- Analyze current program manufacturing and development processes, identifying opportunities for automation, modifications, and improvements.
- Conduct research and analysis to determine the feasibility, costs, and performance benefits of advanced manufacturing technologies or enhancements (for example Vision Systems, Augmented Reality or Automation).
- Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring within their function at one or more sites.
- Provide multisite-level factory support, partnering with the site and program leadership teams to implement manufacturing technologies that support business needs.
- Oversee the execution of cost and schedule to ensure timely completion of projects, while identifying potential roadblocks or proactively monitoring for issues to meet milestones.
- Conduct meetings, consolidate, and present plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project(s).
- Accountable for scouting operational technology (OT):
Technology solutions, applications and deployment approaches and partnering with IT on scouting events for new digital capabilities for the enterprise. - Identify opportunities for digital innovation and automation to improve manufacturing processes.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with the implementation of new technologies.
Qualifications:
- You have 10 plus years of manufacturing experience with 7+ years of leadership experience (directly managing people or indirectly managing through projects), required.
- Degree in a technical or engineering field such as mechanical, manufacturing or related areas.
- Additional
Certifications:
Continuous improvement, Lean tool expert and / or Six Sigma Green Belt.
- Proven record of process improvement in Metal Machining, Plastic Injection Molding or Assembly.
- Related experience includes professional experience to include a background in automation engineering and manufacturing technology.
- Advanced knowledge of manufacturing technologies.
- Experience with digital manufacturing and cyber security.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to apply engineering theories, practices, and procedures to products and processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- You have excellent project management experience and have experience in building and executing strategy.
- You are process-oriented; able to identify process improvements and implement change successfully and have strong influential skills with the ability to interact successfully with all levels of management.
- You have strong understanding of Industry 4.0 technologies and their application in manufacturing.
- Ability to provide strategic technical leadership and lead by influence the creation of long-term strategy aligning and communicating with all levels of the business.
- Ability to communicate and influence multi-disciplinary teams developing strong partnerships across functions to drive measurable collaboration, consensus and operational results.
